“On her eponymous debut excursion as ThornBird, the West Australian soars to new heights as a singer, songwriter, and arranger. ThornBird’s set has its own swagger and style sprouting from Thorn’s energetic, expressive, and wholeheartedly committed singing. Her Perth recruits turned out to be a truly kick-arse backing band. Together, the collective has made an outstanding Americana album. Kick-started by a gutsy blues that hints at early Elvis and ending unexpectedly with a long, dark ballad, ThornBird debut is an album that pulls no punches.”

“There’s little to fault here. File next to Bonnie Rait and Lucinda Williams: this is beautiful work.”
STACK Magazine

“ThornBird exhibits the breadth of Thorn's talent in very pleasing fashion.”
Double J

“It showcases a rootsier, bluesier palette than the Waifs, dense with steely guitar, wailing harmonicas and Thorn’s beautiful, burnished vocals.”
Sydney Morning Herald

“ThornBird shines with swampy, roaring guitars, stacked vocal harmonies and a simple, yet impactful drum beat.”

With a voice honed over three decades at the heart of Australia’s iconic globally touring folk-rock band The Waifs, ThornBird is the electrifying solo project of Vikki Thorn. Emerging as a bold new force on the global stage, her debut self-titled solo album (2022) drew critical acclaim, earning nominations for both an ARIA and a WAMI Award for Best Blues and Roots Album.

ThornBird draws on a life lived traversing the wild geographical landscapes of Utah and Western Australia. Intertwining Americana grooves with blues harp style and a folk storytelling ethos, ThornBird presents a sound that is uniquely Australian, infused with elements of Americana, country, and blues. She channels stories of strong women, solitude, untamed places, love, loss and life lessons into every song. Her songs are rich with storytelling, fuelled by a fierce truthfulness and a voice that resonates across ages.

A seasoned performer, ThornBird is equally at home on the main stage at festivals and arenas, as she is in intimate venues. ThornBird has performed all over the world, singing on stages with Bob Dylan, Keith Urban, Levon Helm, Tony and Joe White, to name a few. She won the grand overall prize in the International Songwriters Award for her song ‘Bridal Train’, a tale of transcontinental love set against the backdrop of WW2.

ThornBird is not just a Waif out on her own; she’s a global artist in full flight.
